The main purpose of the cold expansion vessel is to supply water at a pre-defined pressure, irrespective of boost pressure, in order to limit the pump insertions. This is due to the pressurised air between the membrane and the tank's internal surface. When the pressure increases, the air cushion compresses letting the water fill in the tank.
